Found rising. Building of a school we have never done this before, we have never asked money to anyone. Donations have always been on free bases but this time we have an emergency.

Last July we opened a small school with two classrooms. Our intend was to start with one classroom only in year 2010/11 and to use the second room in year 2011/12 only but we had a boom of enrolments in 2010 and the sisters didn’t feel like denying the possibility to study to anyone.

So now our school has 90 children registered but for the next year we don’t have enough place for them.
We ask to whoever want to do it to give us founds to complete the school construction by Sept 2011 because we don’t have at the moment enough money to do all by ourselves.

To complete the school construction we need about 40.000 Euros.

The village of Maganasse

The Catholic Church has been in the village of Maganasse for many years. The first ones to
Settle there have been the Capuchin fathers from Trentino who have started working with leprouses
Over 40 years ago.

In the village there is a Monastery of the Capuchins who are taking care of various pastoral activities.
They are also working in the villages of Awiate, Burat, Oma and Yeterek.

With their help nearly 5.000 students can now attend school.

Apart from the nursery and the secondary schools in the village of Maganasse there is a very

The village of Yeror

The village of Yeror is located at 5 Kms from Emdibir. The road to Yeror is not very good and it’s impossible to get to the village by car during the rain season.

The Catholic Church is running a nursery school with over 100 children.

They are all getting daily meals, a school uniform and the necessary equipment.

Few years ago a well of over 150 mts was digged and it was equipped with a diesel generator with the aim of providing clean water for all the village.

The village of Shebraber

The village of Shebraber is located 40 Kms from Emdibir. The area is quite poor and many structures are needed.

Luckily in the last few years the sisters of the Congregation of the Franciscan Missionaries of Christ have built there one of their missions.

They are already running the nursery school and they are trying to set up an activity in support of women and in future there is the desire to built a primary school and a clinic.

Something about Emdibir

The village of Emdibir is housing the Episcopal see.
Here the Catholic Church is taking care of different activities.
There is a very spacious church, a nursery and primary school going up to the eight level Which is comparable to the Italian “terza media”.

Another project is about to start for a technical and agricolturar school runned by the Indian priests from the Congregation of the Imitation of Christ.

Some courses are already actives like sewing and IT. The Church is dedicated to St. Anthony from Padova and was built in 1957 by some Capuchins friars from Trentino Alto-Adige.

In the last couple of years a painter is painting the walls with scenes from the Old and New Testament.

In Emdibir there is also Salam Bet which means “house of peace” and it’s a house for the volunteers with nine double rooms where our friends coming from Italy to help can stay.

The village of Getche

In the village of Getche the Catholic Church is running a clinic, a nursery and secondary school.

The sisters of the Congregation of the Daughters of the Misericordy and the Cross are managing all the activities.

There are four sisters there. Two of them are taking care of the school activities, one is running the clinic and the last one is taking care of the convent.

Nearly 100 people are coming every day to the clinic while the children attending the school are over 300 and all of them are getting the school uniform and equipment.

The construction of a dining hall in the school is almost finished and as soon as it will be completed the sisters will be able to serve lunches to all the children going to school.

EMERGENZA INCENDI

Le case tradizionali sono costruite completamente in legno e paglia. Le più vecchie sono addirittura costruite senza l’uso di chiodi, ma solo legando il legname con corde di origine vegetale.
Il tetto di paglia ha bisogno di essere preservato dagli insetti, ed il modo migliore è quello di tenere il fuoco sempre acceso, così il fumo prodotto manda via tutti gli insetti, sia quelli deleteri per il tetto, ed anche quelli portatori di malattie.

L’insieme di queste condizioni fà si che il rischio incendi sia molto elevato, infatti nel mese di aprile 2009, c’è stato un grande incendio, nel villaggio di Emdebera, dove sono andate distrutte 76 capanne. 160 galline sono morte ed anche 20 bovini. Fortunatamente l’incendio è avvenuto di giorno, tutte gli abitanti erano fuori casa, solo alcune persone si sono ferite lievemente nel tentativo di limitare i danni.

L’impegno della Chiesa Cattolica è ora quello di cercare i fondi per ricostruire le capanne. Subito dopo il fatto, il personale responsabile si è preoccupato di distribuire alimentari, coperte e vestiti alle persone rimaste senza abitazione.

In questa foto è possibile vedere delle case ricostruite nel villaggio di Nadene, dove un incendio aveva distrutto più di dieci case nei primi mesi dell’anno 2008.

UNA CARROZZINA PER ZURIA

Zuria è una bambina dall’età incerta, i genitori dicono che potrebbe avere circa 15 anni, ma forse anche meno. E’ afflitta da una malattia ossea, non riesce a stare in piedi, e per spostarsi si deve trascinare sulla schiena. Per la sua malattia ormai non c’è più niente da fare, l’unica possibilità è di renderle la vita più semplice.
Grazie ad alcuni volontari, è arrivata dall’Italia una carrozzina, il giorno in cui Zuria l’ha ricevuta è stata felicissima, la mamma l’ha accompagnata a fare un piccolo giro nel villaggio ed anche tutti gli altri bambini erano felici mentre correvano intorno a Zuria.
Insieme alla carrozzina ha anche ricevuto una coperta dei giochi ed alcune saponette.

Economicamente è stata una spesa non indifferente, ma vedere il sorriso di Zuria è stato qualcosa di commovente che non ha un valore quantificabile.

DENTISTI ED OCULISTI CERCASI

Nella diocesi di Emdibir le esigenze sono molte, di ogni tipo. Dopo un incontro con i responsabili delle strutture sanitarie è emersa una necessità principale. Considerando la scarsità di strutture sanitarie e lo stile di vita molto spartano, le figure professionali maggiormente necessarie sono quelle dei DENTISTI ed OCULISTI.
Data la grande necessità di questo tipo di professionalità , la diocesi di Emdibir è disposta ad ospitare gratuitamente chi desidera venire ad aiutare nelle strutture sanitarie. Inoltre il personale diocesano sarà anche responsabile di tutti i trasporti necessari.

L’ASILO DI ATABAHIYE

La situazione scolastica sul territorio che occupa la diocesi di Emdibir non è delle migliori, infatti sono ancora molti i villaggi dove non c’è alcun tipo di scuola. L’impegno della Chiesa Cattolica è molto consistente, le scuole gestite sono 40 con oltre 15.000 studenti iscritti. Si tratta soprattutto di scuole materne, dove tutti i bambini ricevono un pasto giornaliero, due volte all’anno il materiale scolastico e la divisa.

Uno dei villaggi dove non c’era la scuola si chiama Atabahiye. Su iniziativa del parroco di Emdibir, è stata costruita una piccola casetta in legno con il tetto in lamiera, ora per 60 bambini di Atabahiye c’è una piccola scuola materna a disposizione.

Purtroppo i costi elevati non hanno dato la possibilità di costruire una scuola in mattoni, ma almeno tutti questi bambini possono imparare a leggere e a scrivere.

Le classi sono soltanto due, come due sono i maestri che insegnano la matematica, l’amarico, storia, geografia e un po’ d’inglese.
